The Board of Directors of Steven’s Hope is thrilled to announce a major milestone in our mission to empower communities through education! Our latest project—a brand-new three-classroom block at the Muchisso School campus in Mozambique—Officially opened its doors on January 31, 2025.
A Brighter Future for 3,000 Students
Muchisso School is home to 3,000 eager learners, many of whom have been studying under trees, exposed to the elements. Thanks to our dedicated partners—including Rotary Clubs in Alberta and Yellowknife
—over 300 students will now have access to fully equipped classrooms, complete with desks and chairs generously provided by the Canadian High Commission in Maputo
.
A Celebration of Progress
This milestone will be marked by a special opening ceremony, with distinguished guests including representatives from the Maputo Rotary Club (representing Steven’s Hope), the Canadian High Commission, the Mozambique Ministry of Education
, local community leaders, and school officials
. Their presence underscores the global commitment to advancing education and opportunity for children in Mozambique.
Help Us Cross the Finish Line!
We have raised an incredible $75,000
toward the $90,000
needed for this phase of construction—but we need your help to close the final $20,000 gap
. With your past, present, and future support, we can ensure that every child at the Muchisso School will haves a safe, inspiring place to learn. In addition to addressing the current $20,000.00 shortfall ($15,000.00 for the contractor and $5,000.00 for the security fence)
, our fundraising target for the next phase of construction at the Muchisso campus stands at $90,000.00.
Based on the lessons learned during the previous phase, we will not initiate this next construction phase until we have full financial commitments in place. Immediate action is required to begin securing these funds, as any delay in fundraising will directly postpone the expansion of this vital educational infrastructure.
Our Vision for the Future
Additional supports such as a gymnasium/community centre and library, will be constructed as a final stage of the project if funds permit.
We’ve done it before—this is our third successful project in Mozambique
—and with your generosity, we know we can do it again!
DONATE TODAYMAY 2025 MACAMBUCUINE SCHOOL CAMPUS ONGOING MAINTENANCE - HELP NEEDED!! Our immediate priority is to raise the $3000.00 urgently needed for ongoing maintenance at the Macambucuine campus.
Several maintenance upgrades, primarily funded by the Steven’s Hope and the Rotary Club of Edmonton Gateway Rotary Club and the local school community, are either completed or in progress at the Macambucuine School campus. The most recent being the upgrading of the fresh water supply system leading from the municipal line to the campus. The old lines had deteriorated to the point where that site was completely reliant on either rainwater or trucked water, which eliminated their ability to operate washrooms and supply students with fresh water for hygienic and consumption purposes.
Given the fact that the majority of school community members have no viable means to provide funds on a personal level, raising the funds required to improve the system is no small feat. Unfortunately, there still remains a significant number of upgrades to be completed.
Utilizing funds provided funds provided to the Macambucuine School for maintenance purposes, several smaller projects have been undertaken, such as: removal of bat scat from the ceiling of the staff building, removing and replacing parts of the ceiling and wall that have been contaminated beyond repair Improving classroom security, and general painting of classrooms to the extent existing funds permit. An additional round of funding for maintenance at the Macambucuine School site is desperately needed to conduct washroom repairs/upgrades, improve the electrical system generally, and conduct much-needed general repairs in all areas.
